September 19, 2021 — 20th Annual and Final Jeff Coombs Memorial 5k
Pre-register online by August 30 to ensure you receive a t-shirt!
For the last 19 years, the Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race, Walk and Family Day has brought together more than 1000 people annually in memory of Jeff and all those who died on 9/11, and in recognition of the kindness and solidarity that resulted from that tragic day.
Each September since 2002, the Foundation has sponsored the highly-anticipated event, raising about $50,000 annually. Participants to the event have come from cities throughout the Commonwealth, as well as New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, California, Washington, D.C. and Virginia.
This September 19, we look forward to gathering again after having to go virtual in 2020 due to the Pandemic. We are planning for an amazing Grand Finale, as the 20th Road Race, marking the 20th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, will be the last Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race, Walk and Family Day. While it’s still a well-loved event, we know the time is right to close it out, and we hope to do so in a way that celebrates and shows gratitude for all the love and support that has been shared with us over the years. We have received permission from the town to move forward with an in-person event, but we realize if the pandemic resurges, we may have to cancel. Our primary concern is the health and well being of all of you! If that happens, registration refunds will be made upon request.
If you’ve ever said “I should do this,” now is the time to sign up so you can be part of this amazing event! As always, we will award medals in a number of age categories, male and female, as well as a stroller division. All pre-registered participants, whether running, walking or just hanging around, receive a coveted Road Race t-shirt. Anyone attending is invited to enjoy the raffles, free food and children’s activities, including a children’s race, moonwalks, a DJ, clowns, face-painting, and balloon sculptures (activities may change subject to covid-19 restrictions).
Register by August 30 to ensure you receive a t-shirt. If you can’t join us in person, sign up for the Virtual option. Send us your pictures and we’ll post them on our facebook page.
As always, thanks to the Abington Police, Abington Middle School Peer Leaders, Abington Greenwave Football and soccer players and other Abington High students, local merchants and a very dedicated team of volunteers and Committee Members. Dubbed as “one of the best-organized races ever” by many veteran road-racers, the Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race features a smooth start on Chestnut Street in Abington, with a classic, crowd-cheering, professionally-timed finish just behind the Woodsdale School off Chestnut Street.
