Even if you can’t make it to the 17th Annual Jeff Coombs Memorial 5K, Walk and Family Day, you can still be part of the fun!!! Sign up as a Virtual Runner!

Each September the Foundation sponsors the Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race, Walk and Family Day, raising about $50,000 annually. The 5K road race/walk has become a highly anticipated event in the town and is well known beyond the streets of Abington. Participants to the event have come from cities throughout the state, as well as New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, California, Washington, D.C. and Virginia.

We hope you’ll join us this year in the 17th Annual event on Sunday, September 9, 2018. We anticipate an enthusiastic crowd ready to run, walk, or just hang out for a great cause!! We hope to have some of our real American military heroes running in uniform again this year, carrying their 25lb rucksacks on their back.

We anticipate another awesome year. We’ve decided to end this amazing event in 2021 at the 20th Anniversary of 9/11, so with this year’s event there are only 4 more to go! If you’ve ever said “I should do this,” now is the time to sign up so you can enjoy a few more after that! Each year medals are awarded in a number of categories, male and female, as well as a stroller division. All pre-registered participants, whether running, walking or just hanging around, receive a coveted Road Race t-shirt. Anyone attending is invited to enjoy the free food and children’s activities, including a children’s race, moonwalks, a DJ, clowns, face-painting, and balloon sculptures.

As always, thanks to the Abington Police, Frolio Jr. High Peer Leaders, Abington Greenwave Football and soccer players and other Abington High students, local merchants including event sponsor Cape Cod Lumber and major sponsors Country Rentals, Inc. and Stop &Shop and a very dedicated team of volunteers and Committee Members. With their commitment, the Road Race/Family Walk has maintained a steady attendance of more than 1000 participants each year. Dubbed as “one of the best-organized races ever” by many veteran road-racers, the Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race features a smooth start on Chestnut Street in Abington, with a classic, crowd-cheering, professionally-timed finish just behind the Woodsdale School off Chestnut Street.

Committee Coordinators are:

  • Christie Coombs: Chairperson
  • Doug Coombs: Race Coordinator
  • Maureen Tomlin: Senior Event Manager
